Pallasovka

The Pallasovka meteorite was found in 1990 in the Volgograd region of Russia.  It belongs to the main group of pallasites but it is characterized by unusual Chromite.  This meteorite was found 27.5 km southwest of  the Pallasovka town in Russia by N.F. Kharitonov on the shore of a pond.  The single specimen weighed 198 kg and measured 40 x 45 x 55 cm.  Subsequent  expeditions  in search of other specimens covered an area up to 4 km from the original find.  These expeditions resulted in an additional 190 grams  found at the original site, believed to be fragments from the original stone.  Based on the current evidence, this will likely remain a single specimen find.
