Nantan Meteorites

NT001

Nantan meteorites are one of the rare witnessed iron meteorite falls, it was witnessed in May of the year 1516 (Jiajing 11th year). Stars fell from the northwest direction, five to six foot long, waving like snakes and dragons. They were as bright as lightning and disappeared in seconds. They fell in Nandan, China, they were later found by farmers in 1958 when they were out looking for iron, iron was in great demand at the time. When they tried to melt them down and they would not melt at the same temps as iron, they knew that they were not ordinary iron, and had geologist come out and research the weird iron rocks.

NT002

This one weigh in at 202.5 grams. This one is either not a authentic meteorite, or it has changed over time. The metal is a dark grayish color. and it will not etch. This may be because of how long this "meteorite" has been on Earth. I will add more photos so that you can see what I am talking about.

NT003

This one has been veneered to protect it from further weathering. It weighs in at 303.8 grams. It is an oriented meteorite, when examining it you can see some flow lines, not able to get a good photo, bad camera. You can see a spot in the center photo where I attempted to grind a window where I was going to etch. I have not got to it yet, but after I do I will post some photos of it.

This is a slice from the above piece (NT003) It looks a lot like an Impact ?Melt Breccia. It is definitely not an iron, there are flakes of iron and lot of "melt rivers" at least that's what it looks like
