Estherville

A 2.52 gram specimen of The ESTHERVILLE Meteorite. It Fell in Emmet County, Iowa, USA on May 10, 1879. Several large masses of weight of over 317.5 kg were found after detonations and the appearance of a brilliant fireball. This American Classic has been classified as a Stony-Iron, Mesosiderite type.

This is a Polymict breccia, consisting of iron and silicate inclusions mixed with eucritic and diogenitic clasts, which was formed by the disruption and reassembly of a differentiated asteroid. The brecciated surface material was buried under a deep regolith, where it experienced very slow cooling and annealing. Estherville is designated as a transitional 3A/4A metamorphic group." quote by Alan Lang.
